Bvlgari
Designer History:
The Bvlgaris hail from a Greek silversmith family in the village of Epirus, where the founder of the family, Sotirio, made precious objects in silver. In 1884 Sotirio emigrated to Italy where he opened his first shop on the via Sistina in Rome. In 1905, with the help of his sons Costantino and Giorgio, he opened another shop in Rome on via Condotti, which is currently the flagship store. Sotirio’s sons developed an abiding interest in precious stones and jewels, gradually taking over their father’s role. During the 1950’s, the Bvlgari brand’s unique style came to light and gained the recognition it deserved, and the 1970s brought international expansion, with stores in New York, Paris, Geneva and Monte Carlo. Bvlgari Parfums was established in Switzerland in the early 1990s, marking the brand’s entry into the upscale perfume market.
The company introduced its debut collection of silk scarves in 1997, and a year later introduced leather bags and eyewear. In 1999, table and giftware lines rounded out the company’s diverse offerings. Since then, the Bvlgari brand has remained synonymous with luxury and quality.
